The death of a loved one can become a source of conflict among family members and others. Overwhelming losses of family resources and relationships occur too often in estate-related disputes. Assets and resources are depleted, and families become embroiled in a bitter, lengthy and expensive legal process. Using the Collaborative Process in disputes involving estates and wills usually leads to more rapid, more harmonious, and lower cost settlements. It is much better to settle family disputes with dignity and respect than in an adversial process that can harden attitudes and hurt long-term relationships.
